Magpie Monday - second-hand finds

I love Magpie Monday where bloggers celebrate bargains they have acquired from charity shops, freegle, ebay, netmums, family and friends etc.

I am always shopping for second-hand finds so often wonder what to feature on Magpie Monday. Should I post all the artwork I have found? The books? The quirky? The funny? The embarrassing?

This week, I have decided to feature two recent finds.

At Christmas, I was mortified when I served a frankly superb Christmas dinner but on all manner of mismatched crockery. I determined then that I would buy a dinner service and would know the right one when I found it.

I picked one up a couple of months ago. Classical enough to not be too on trend but to last a lifetime. Lots of bits too including plates, cups, tureen, teapot, sandwich plates, napkin rings, butter dish, salt and pepper pots. Buying this makes me feel almost like a grown-up!

Of course, I can always find something else that I "need" and if you have the dinner service, you need a dresser to display it on, right?

So I was very happy to pick up a dresser via Netmums!

Now, here is the quiz, how much in total did I pay for this lot? Leave me a comment with your guess and I will reveal all next week.

  3. It does indeed!
Maybe I could let you have the spare cup if you get closest to guessing how much I paid for the set and the dresser!
Milk jug - just have the one so am keeping it.

  7. OMG!! Just read Christea and Cakes post. What are the chances!!!

I reckon you paid £15 for the dinner service and £60 for the dresser (lovely as they are we used to get lots of these donated to my charity shop and we couldn't give them away. Seems people don't have the room these days, and nobody wanted dark wood :0(

If I win, I bequeath your spare cup to Chris! x

  8. I am miles away from Chris Tea and Cakes in Yorkshire.
I liked the dark wood cos that bit different from usual pine look and also I loved the curly bit at the top.
I am saying nothing till next week about your guesses but the person who wins, I will send them a prize that I think suits them!

  13. Lovely dinner service and I like your thinking re: something to display it on! Wow, as to how much it all cost that's quite hard, round here I've seen just teasets priced at £45. Hmm, I'm going to guess the dinner service was a steal at £20, and your fabulous dresser was £30.

  17. I thought I was seeing things when I read this after seeing the tea service on Chris's post. I am so envious. I reckon £35 for the china and if you only paid that then a REAL bargain and £50 for the dresser.

  18. Deja vu!! lol!! Just beautiful! It's not the set I saw for £33 is it? lol

  19. Fab china. I think you paid £12.50 for the china and £35 for the dresser. Its a gorgeous style. I would certainly strip it and paint it white : ) (but then you knew I would say that didn't you ? ) xx
